History - Department of Social Sciences and Political Sciences

Department of Social Sciences and Political Sciences, faculty of Law, Jambi University, has a long history of contribution to the development of political science and government in Indonesia, especially in the Jambi Province area. The origins of this department can be traced to the founding of Jambi University in 1963. At the time, Jambi University only has four main faculties, namely the Faculty of Law, faculty of Economics, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, and the Faculty of Agriculture. The Faculty of Law became one of the initial foundations for the development of social and political science, especially in the context of law and government.

Department of Social Sciences and Political Sciences, which is now under the auspices of the Faculty of Law, started its initial steps as part of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Joseph). Until the year 2020, JISIS Jambi University is the main center of social science management at this university, with its three flagship study programs: Government Management Study Program, Government Science Study Program, and Political Science Study Program. The management of these three study programs is based on several official decisions and mandates from the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Education and Culture, as follows:

The journey of these three study programs was not without various challenges, especially those related to institutional governance and the need to carry out bureaucratic reform in higher education environments. Along with the times and demands for more effective higher education governance, efficient, and responsive to global dynamics, an urgent need for restructuring emerged. This restructuring has had a significant impact on the Department of Political Science and Government, which in the year 2020 officially under the auspices of the Faculty of Law, Jambi University with two main study programs, namely the Government Science Study Program and the Political Science Study Program. These two study programs, in the same year, successfully achieved B accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT), marks a significant achievement in academic quality. Meanwhile, The Government Management D-IV Study Program moved its management to the Faculty of Economics and Business.
This step was taken as part of strategic efforts to strengthen good governance (good governance) in a college environment, with a focus on improving institutional efficiency and academic relevance. It is hoped that this structural change will encourage stronger synergy between political fields, law, and government—the three main pillars of education at Jambi University—so as to produce graduates who are not only academically competent, but also able to make a significant contribution to society, especially in the context of good governance and democratic development.
The Department of Social and Political Sciences Science continues to experience significant development. This department has played an active role in teaching, study, and dedication to the community. Through a curriculum that is dynamic and relevant to the needs of the times, This department aims to produce graduates who have high competence in the field of politics, government, as well as public policy. Graduates are expected to be able to face global challenges and contribute significantly to the development of good governance at the local level, national, as well as internationally.
In addition to teaching, The Department of Social and Political Sciences also strengthens its role in research and community service. Much of the research carried out by lecturers and students in this department focuses on current issues in the fields of politics and government, including studies on governance, democracy, public policy, and regional development. This department also establishes various collaborations with local governments, non-governmental organization, and other academic institutions at national and international levels, which aims to improve the quality of education and the real impact of community service.
With all his achievements and commitment, Department of Social Sciences and Political Sciences, faculty of Law, Jambi University, continues to strive to become a center of excellence in political and government education. This department plays an important role in producing a generation of leaders and policy makers with integrity, have global insight, and able to provide solutions to political and government problems in Indonesia.

JISIS PURPOSE

Produce graduates who have high competencies in the fields of political science and government, as well as being able to compete at the global level through the mastery of science, practical skills, and entrepreneurial attitudes.

Creating research works that have a positive impact on the development of science and the utilization of natural resources in a sustainable manner, and make a real contribution to solving social and political problems in society.

Increase the participation of majors in community empowerment through the application of political science and government and entrepreneurship, with a focus on developing local potential and solving social problems.

4. Strengthening the network of cooperation
Strengthen the national and international cooperation network to support the learning and research process, as well as expanding access to resources and cooperation opportunities in various fields.

Building a dynamic and innovative academic culture by encouraging the active involvement of lecturers and students in research, teaching, and devotion to society, as well as integrating information technology in all aspects of learning.
