Theme: Social Statistics Methods and Data Governance in Social Sciences Perspective
Date: Tuesday–Wednesday, July 15–16, 2025
Venue: UNIFAC Auditorium and Senate Meeting Hall, Jambi University, Indonesia

1. Background

In the era of the Society 5.0, technological developments—particularly in digital systems, artificial intelligence (AI), and big data analytics—have significantly redefined the operational landscape of public institutions and reshaped the methodologies within the social sciences. The intersection of data-driven governance and empirical social science research presents new opportunities and challenges for both academia and public institutions.

Social statistics have become indispensable in measuring social phenomena, evaluating the effectiveness of policies, and supporting strategic decision-making. Simultaneously, the importance of sound data governance—covering data ethics, data quality, data privacy, and accessibility—has grown in tandem with the proliferation of digital information infrastructures in both governmental and research environments.

Against this backdrop, the 2nd International Seminar on Social, Government, and Politics (LOGIC) is convened under the theme "Social Statistics Methods and Data Governance in Social Sciences Perspective." Organized by the Department of Social and Political Sciences, Jambi University, in collaboration with the Faculty of Public Administration, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, this event serves as a forum to bring together global experts, academics, policymakers, and practitioners to examine emerging practices, methodological innovations, and cross-sector collaboration in these critical areas.

This seminar builds upon the success of the previous LOGIC event and aims to deepen scholarly engagement and institutional cooperation in addressing complex socio-political challenges through quantitative and digital methodologies.

2. Objectives

The objectives of this seminar are as follows:

  1. To explore contemporary methodological approaches in social statistics
The seminar seeks to highlight cutting-edge techniques, tools, and theoretical frameworks used in quantitative and mixed-method research within the social sciences. By doing so, it encourages methodological innovation and rigor in analyzing socio-political phenomena.
  2. To share best practices in data governance and digital transformation in public administration
Participants will examine how governments and institutions manage data as a strategic asset, focusing on issues such as ethical data use, interoperability, and AI integration in public services.
  3. To foster international academic collaboration
Through plenary talks, parallel sessions, and focused group discussions, the seminar aims to initiate and strengthen academic partnerships, particularly between Universitas Jambi and European universities.
  4. To promote evidence-based policymaking
By facilitating knowledge exchange between researchers and policymakers, the seminar contributes to the formulation of more effective, data-informed public policies, responsive to local and global societal needs.

3. Expected Outcomes

The seminar is expected to produce several key outcomes, including:

  1. Enhanced understanding of the strategic role of data governance in the formulation, implementation, and evaluation of public policy, especially in the context of sustainable and inclusive development.
  2. Strengthened institutional collaboration between Universitas Jambi and the University of Ljubljana, with concrete opportunities for future joint research, academic exchange, and capacity-building initiatives.
  3. Identification of emerging themes and research areas in the domains of social statistics, digital transformation, AI ethics, and public sector innovation, offering a roadmap for future interdisciplinary studies.
  4. Improved research competencies among participating faculty, early-career scholars, and postgraduate students through interaction with international experts and exposure to best practices in methodological design.

4. Target Participants

This seminar is designed to attract a diverse group of stakeholders, including:

  • Academics and researchers in the fields of political science, public administration, sociology, demography, and data science, who are engaged in the study and application of social statistics and governance practices.
  • Government officials and public administrators, particularly those involved in planning, policy evaluation, digital services, and statistical agencies, who seek to incorporate data-driven strategies into public management.
  • Graduate students (Master’s and Doctoral level) interested in quantitative social research, public policy analysis, and comparative governance studies.
  • Representatives from international partner universities, research institutes, and donor organizations committed to fostering knowledge exchange and institutional development.
  • Members of the general public, civil society, and professional communities with a keen interest in digital governance, transparency, and participatory decision-making.
